'Agni'- Fire. The biological fire that governs metabolism.
Ayurveda is the science of Self healing. It gives us great knowledge about us, our body, our health. The problem is we don't have time to sit, think and understand what The Indian system of medicine can give us and because of this lack of time and patience we run behind modern system of Medicine.
There is nothing wrong in using the modern system but I think Self healing is better than anything. Don't worry! I am here to share with you about what Ayurveda say's and how you can take care of yourself and reduce those frequent visits to your doctor.
Let's understand about how Agni and digestion are related and how we can take care of our system.
Agni- The digestive fire functions as a catalytic agent in digestion and metabolism.
Pitta dosha contains heat energy which helps in digestion. The heat energy is agni.
Pitta and agni are essentially the same with this subtle difference:- Pitta is the container and agni is the content.
Agni is acidic in nature and it's action breaks down food and stimulates digestion.
In every tissue and cell, agni is present and is necessary for maintaining the nutrition of the tissues and the maintenance of the immune mechanism.
Agni protects the flora of organs. How?
It destroys micro-organisms, foreign bacteria and toxins in the stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
Importance of agni
• Longevity depends upon agni.
•Intelligence, understanding, perception and comprehension are also the function of Agni.
•The skin color is maintained by agni.
•Metabolism and enzyme system depends upon agni.
As long as agni is functioning properly, the process of breaking down food and absorbing and Assimilating it into the body will operate smoothly.
Problem!
When agni becomes impaired because of the imbalance in Tridosha, the metabolism is drastically affected. Food components become undigested and Unabsorbed.
This will clog the intestines. In Ayurveda we say there will be the formation of 'ama ras'.
This condition will lead to the formation of toxins.
These toxins are absorbed into the blood and enter the general circulation. They eventually accumulate in the weaker parts of the body, where they create contraction, clogging, stagnation, weakness of organs and reduce the immune mechanism of the respective tissue..
This will lead to diseased condition in the affective organs like arthritis, diabetes, heart disease.
Indigestion can be dangerous. A root of all the disease is 'ama' that is the undigested food.
Avoid
To take care of your digestive system one should strictly avoid -
• don't take incompatible foods
•Too heavy, oily, junk food
•less amount of water intake
•Having heavy meals and not performing any physical work.
All this will lead to poor digestion.
How can I check ama dosh in my body?
If your tongue is coated with a white film, this indicates that ama exists in the large intestine, small intestine or stomach. (Depends upon which part of the tongue is coated)
I will share a blog on tongue diagnosis very soon. You can easily check your health by looking at your tongue. Keep reading.
So now you must be aware that how agni play's crucial role in digestion.
When agni is retarded ama dosha develops and when agni becomes hyperactive the digestive process burns away, this condition lowers the body's immunity.
So It is very important to keep the Three dosha's (Vatta, Pitta and Kafa) and Agni in neutral state.
Neither too high nor too low. Balance is important in body as well as in life.
This was all about the Digestive fire- Agni.
Always keep a check on what you eat. Eating right meal will lead you towards good health.
